Women's Silk Pajamas: How to Choose (Size, Momme, Style) - StudioSoie

A silk pyjama set is one of the most pleasant things you can wear — and one of the loveliest gifts to give. It does need choosing well: silk has its own rules, starting with size.

Size: silk doesn't stretch

Unlike jersey, silk is not stretchy. To move freely at night, choose your usual size with a little room to spare — and if you're between two sizes, go for the larger one. A pyjama that is too fitted pulls on the seams and loses comfort.

Momme: choose by season

For a garment, fluidity matters more than density. 19 momme is the ideal weight: light, silky and thermoregulating — cool in summer, soft in winter. 16.5 momme suits the lightest, most summery pieces. To understand it all, see our momme guide.

Style: finding your own

  • The two-piece (shirt + trousers): timeless, comfortable, perfect for every day.
  • The nightdress: lighter and more sensual, ideal in summer — see our silk nightdresses.
  • The set with dressing gown: for a hotel-style look, from morning to evening.

Giving a silk pyjama set as a gift

It's a safe choice: luxurious, useful, and suited to every body shape if you follow the sizing rule above. If in doubt, a neutral colour (champagne, pearl grey, black) and a 19 momme weight make a choice that works for everyone.

Gift tip: pair the pyjama set with a silk accessory (sleep mask or scrunchie) for a coordinated gift box.

And how do you care for it?

Hand wash or a delicate 30 °C cycle in a laundry bag, then dry flat away from sunlight. Nothing complicated: everything is in our silk care guide.
